Texas Longnecks Or, as the case may be, San Diego Giraffes

• Texas Longnecks Or, as the case may be, San Diego Giraffes
• Panda Commanda Frankly, I\'ve never been much impressed by panda bears, with their attention-seeking \"inability\" to procreate. But I have to admit, they\'re pretty stylin\'
• Elephant Butts Some days, I\'m told, some people capture marvelous pictures of elephants cavorting in the sunlight. Me, I\'m not so lucky... or patient
• Dragonfly Objects in motion tend to stay in motion, while objects at rest are easier to photograph
• Fly, Damsel, Fly Hovering in place, then gripping a slender strand tightly, this blue damselfly didn\'t shy away from the camera as many do
• Bird On A Wire Sometimes I leave my office and see hundreds of birds clustered on these wires and I think of Bird, Hitchcock\'s famous movie. Rarely, I\'ll see just one lonely bird, sitting there as if he was left behind, or deliberately stayed behind, when all the other birds left
• In Flight When one walks close to ducks, one tends to \"spook\" them, and they fly across the lake to escape the rabid photographer
• Follow The Leader Pretty ducks, all in a row
• Waiting You can\'t tell from this picture, but this bird was singing! \"Someday my fish will come...\"
• In-Flight \"Good afternoon. We\'ll be cruising at an altitude of about three feet, and there is no in-flight movie today.\"
• Wild Bunny One day three children set out from their house on a walk. They enjoyed walking in the evening, often turning ordinary streets and sidewalks into fantastic flights of fancy and adventures into the Great Unknown. On this particular evening, they narrowly escaped being ravaged by a wild bunny, who leapt out from behind a neighbors with a mighty chew and a ferocious twitch of its nose. Huddling together at first out of fear, the oldest child then stepped forward and shouted to the bunny, \"We do not fear you!\" That seemed to set the attacker back, but then it reared up onto its hind legs, pressing the attack. The younger two children shuddered and this and drew even more closely together, but the oldest recognized this as a desperate ploy from the rabbit. \"Begone!\" she shouted, and the wild bunny, recognizing defeat, turned and hopped back into the bushes from which it had come. It was only then that the oldest child let out a deep sigh of relief. For all the brave talk, she had not been entirely sure that the wild bunny wouldn\'t leap at her and tear her limb from limb. The three children continued on their walk, though they stayed very close together that evening. It was at almost an hour before the oldest child\'s hands stopped shaking, but she didn\'t let her younger siblings notice.
• Crane Strikes Patiently, the crane would stand still, seeming to watch anything but the water in front of it, but then SPLASH!
• Hard Shell When I started walking around the lake, taking pictures, I was startled by a sudden splash near me. It was too late to capture it, but a large turtle had been sunbathing near me, not moving until it jumped in the water. Not wanting to miss a similar opportunity, I spotted a group of five turtles sunbathing on the opposite bank and walked very slowly and quietly, taking pictures often. Fortunately, one turtle waited until I was quite close before diving in
• Crane Comes Up Empty Sometimes, as patiently as the crane would wait, it would come up empty-beaked
• Crane Caught A Fish Patience was often rewarded with a small fish
• Staring Contest The gecko wanted out of the bowl, but I wanted pictures first. I\'d like to say he seemed to comprehend this and there was an understanding between us, but really, he just couldn\'t easily get out of the bowl until I tipped it over for him
• Escaping Gecko From light to darkness
• Gecko One of a species common to houses in North Texas
• Parasites
• Attacking A Potato Plant Wondering why the potato plant leaves have holes in them, I looked more closely and spotted these little critters. Later, I showed the picture to my wife.\"This is why the potato plant has holes in the leaves,\" I said. \"What did you do with them?\" she asked.\"The holes, or the leaves?\"\"The bugs!\" I think she thought I was kidding. I wasn\'t.\"Um, took their picture?\" I replied. It had not occurred to me that I should somehow stop them from chewing the leaves. Oops!
