In early 2004, I spent a weekend in the city of my youth, San Diego. It has changed a lot, and I've been away a long time, so I was able to see it as a tourist sees it.

$Dedication This seems like a \"Successories\" poster, in which our hero faces an enormous obstacles and simply charges on, not heeding the pain sure to result. I just thought, dang, my thighs sure would ache.These stairs are along the boardwalk, between the San Diego Convention Center and Seaport Village$
$California Cruisin\' Walking through downtown San Diego one afternoon, I spotted this car and snapped a single pic. I now wish I had snapped more, even stopped and asked for permssion, since you can barely see one of the most interesting features of this car -- the \"propellors\" on the back of the car$
$Southwest Tracks It\'s the color scheme$
$Sydney\'s Opera House, Reimagined When I lived in San Diego, many years ago, this area was called \"Golden Hall,\" but I think it is called something else now. Still, in downtown San Diego, in the plaza behind City Hall, there is this beautiful fountain$
$Stairway To Insanity It might take a while with a photograph, but I\'m convinced that anyone who walks down these stairs in real life -- near the convention center in San Diego, CA -- is sure to develop a headache.The stairs themselves slant, so one is torn between walking straight (and running into the rail), or following the rail (and crab-walking).They\'re \"crazy stairs\"$
$Lavender Courtyard Having grown up in San Diego, I\'m sure I once knew what these trees were called. I want to say that they\'re jacaranda trees, but all I know for sure is that these were in downtown San Diego, and they\'re beautiful$
$One Way Well-weathered in San Diego, a city without much weather, I just can\'t figure it out$
$Skateboarding Permitted I strongly suspect that the permission for skateboarding is, well, less-than-official. I also want to know how someone is expected to get alcohol into the park during the 12 hours per day when it is permitted if it can\'t be in the parking lot at any time$
$Abandoned Look closely. Doesn\'t it look like a baby has been left next to a garbage can? Yes, that\'s a real baby$
$Do Your Duty It isn\'t enough to simply demand that people clean up after their dogs. The state of California must also provide the tools and instructions, along with each reminder. To be fair, I\'ve seen these around my own city in Texas as well, but they still seem quintessentially Californian$
$Never Forget What an elephant can\'t remember, it can never forget, so a stone elephant should never forget anything$
